Simultaneous Interpretation for One to Two People

There are some meetings and conferences where most participants speak the same language, but where at most one or two people require an interpreter. In this setting, it makes sense to use the form of interpretation which is the least disruptive to the event.

Whispered interpretation (chuchotage in French) is an appropriate form of simultaneous interpretation when only one or two people in a group require interpretation and there is no translation equipment available. The interpreter sits or stands next to the person (or behind them) and interprets in a low (whispered) voice.

It is common to request whispered interpretation for presentations, speeches, official visits by foreign heads-of-state and trials.
